By then, the cheap magazines that had published his yarns were long forgotten except by a few passionate collectors. Like a burial mound&#8217;s hidden hoard of treasure, they lay undisturbed, awaiting their rediscovery by Mr. Jones &#8212; and now a growing band of admirers.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Such is the coda of <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052970204409904574350983611946784.html?mod=googlenews_wsj\">John J. Miller&#8217;s article<\/a> concerning Harold Lamb&#8217;s career and the publication of <em>Swords From the West<\/em>, one of <a href=\"http:\/\/leogrin.com\/CimmerianBlog\/?p=4879\">a brace of (very recently published) editions<\/a> collecting Lamb&#8217;s work put out by Bison Books.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5286  aligncenter\" title=\"lamb-west\" src=\"http:\/\/leogrin.com\/CimmerianBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/lamb-west.jpg\" alt=\"lamb-west\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/leogrin.com\/CimmerianBlog\/?s=%22john+j.+miller%22\">Mr. Miller&#8217;s name should be familiar<\/a> to long-time readers of <em>The Cimmerian<\/em> blog. His busy keyboard has kept the names of worthy authors such as Robert E. Howard (who is name-checked in the above article), Gemmell and Machen lurking about the contested borders of literary credibility for <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5284\" title=\"Miller-FB\" src=\"http:\/\/leogrin.com\/CimmerianBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/Miller-FB1.jpg\" alt=\"Miller-FB\" width=\"130\" height=\"130\" \/>several years now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heymiller.com\/?page_id=2\">Miller<\/a> provides an excellent summary of both Lamb&#8217;s career (and literary talents) and of the themes underlying the tales included in <em>Swords From the West<\/em>. He also takes due note of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haroldlamb.com\/\">the herculean efforts of Howard A. Jones<\/a> in bringing Lamb&#8217;s fiction to a new audience. That said (despite JJM&#8217;s predictions), my money is still on Lamb (as opposed to Dumas) in another hundred years.
