Miller. <em>The Cimmerian<\/em> gets name-checked, and John pits three words of my conservative optimism against a burst of Rusty Burke&#8217;s liberal pessimism. Fun for the whole family.<\/p>\n<p>John is National Political Reporter for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/\"><em>National Review<\/em><\/a>, and does a lot of freelance writing for the <em>WSJ<\/em> and other publications. Last year he wrote a good article about Lovecraft in the same paper, which you can read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opinionjournal.com\/la\/?id=110006424\">here<\/a>, while in 2002 the <em>WSJ<\/em> published his piece on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opinionjournal.com\/taste\/?id=110002732\">Christian values in Tolkien&#8217;s Middle Earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As for the <em>National Review<\/em>, it always has solid pop-culture material &#8212; read John&#8217;s take on Dungeons &amp; Dragons, his column on C. S. Lewis&#8217; <em>Screwtape Letters<\/em>, some thoughts on the ghost stories of Russell Kirk, or browse through his excellent coverage about last year&#8217;s Narnia craze:<\/p>\n<p>Back to Narnia <\/p>\n<p>Narnian Order<\/p>\n<p>The Lion King<\/p>\n<p>X-Mas in Narnia<\/p>\n<p>Getting Howard some good press in one of the nation&#8217;s most prestigious newspapers serves as a nice bookend to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2006\/01\/19\/AR2006011902754.html\">January&#8217;s coverage of him<\/a> in <em>The Washington Post<\/em> by Pulitzer Prize winning critic Michael Dirda, and is a fine way to wrap up the REH centennial.
